Obituary for Robert E. "Bobby" Vasseur Jr.

Robert E. "Bobby" Vasseur Jr., of Somers, entered into eternal peace, Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. Bobby was born and raised in the Thompsonville section of Enfield. He was a resident of Somers for the past 40 years. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy joining the service following High School. He was employed by the former Dexter Corp. retiring after 20 years. Bobby was a true lover of the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He frequented his favorite fishing hole in Somers at Hurds Lake by Camp Aya Po. He also enjoyed hunting big game especially deer and bear. Bobby was an avid cook, and earned a culinary degree from the CT Culinary Institute. He truly loved cooking for people and showing off his skills in creating his specialty, Cajun dishes; the spicier the better. He is survived by his two sons Sean Vasseur and his partner Paula Hastings of Enfield, and Mark Vasseur and his wife Lisa of Somers; Sean and Mark's two sisters, Dawn Bond of Westfield MA and Jannine Vasseur of Cape Coral FL, their mother Sheila (Franciamore) Vasseur of Enfield, CT., Bob's mother, Doris (Kennedy) Vasseur of Enfield; Bobby's three sisters, Charlene Grinuk and her husband Mark of Enfield, Susan Tautic and her partner Charles Settino of East Hartford, and Margaret Hupfer and her husband Robert of Springfield, MA; seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Robert E. Vasseur Sr. (2013). Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2016 followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, CT. Donations in Bobby's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067-3045, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
