Obituary for Ruth M. Miller

Ruth M. (Rayner) Miller, 93, of Pittsfield, MA, passed away peacefully, on August 14, 2016, surrounded by her family after a short illness. She was born on September 14, 1922 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of the late Carl and Winifred (Shand) Rayner. A lifelong resident of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Ruth was a dedicated worker, serving as the Head Housekeeper at Miss Hall's School until her retirement at 80 years of age. Her favorite pastime was roller-skating, and she was a judge at many North East Region roller-skating competitions. Ruth was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, as well as going to play Bingo with her sister Carolyn, going out to eat with friends, traveling and attending the Ladies Guild at St. Stephen's Church. Ruth will be greatly missed by her five children, Roy Miller of Willis, TX, Paul Miller and his wife Gail, of North Adams, MA, Joan Arlequeeuw and her husband William, of Milfred, PA, Nancy Foster and her husband Steven, of Cantonment, FL, and Kathy Ferreira and her husband John, of Stafford Springs, CT. Ruth also leaves behind her sister, Carolyn Scully, her brother, John Rayner both of Pittsfield, MA, as well as 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Roy Miller, brother, Carl Rayner, and two grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, August 19, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., (Route 190) Somers, CT. A second visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20, from 9:30 am to 10:30, a funeral procession will gather at the funeral home at 10:30, for a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 383 Hazard Ave, Enfield. Burial will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations for a Heart Defibrillator in memory of Ruth Miller may be sent to the West Stafford Fire Department, 144 West Stafford Road, West Stafford, CT 06070.
