Obituary for Richard J. "Rich" LaVallee

Richard J. “Rich” LaVallee, 77, of Enfield, CT loving husband, of 51 years to the late Hazel (DeGray) LaVallee entered into Eternal Rest on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Wingate of Hampden with his family by his side. Richard was born February 12, 1939, in Springfield, MA the son of the late Napoleon J. and Cecile (Giroux) LaVallee. Richard was employed for over 30 years as a truck driver with Della Construction in Enfield. He was a member of Teamster Local 671. Richard enjoyed gardening, wood working and bowling, but traveling with his wife brought Richard the greatest joy. He is survived by his two daughters, Sherry Cavanaugh and her fiancé, Mark Trudeau of Enfield and Lori Gonyea and her husband, Lawrence of Springfield, MA; five grandchildren, Cory Gonyea, Surina and Kyle Paro, Coady Cavanaugh and Larry Gonyea; two brothers, Ronald LaVallee and his wife, Tina of Somers and Roger LaVallee and his wife, Trisha of Enfield; two sisters, Dee Dee Smith of West Springfield, MA and Linda Lukas and her husband, Paul of Suffield; a sister-in-law, Eileen LaVallee and several nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by a son, Richard Mark LaVallee; two brothers, Robert and Paul LaVallee and a sister, Cynthia Prass. Richard’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Wingate of Hampden for their wonderful and compassionate care. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. Enfield. A funeral service for Richard will be celebrated at 11:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s King Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489 or to the Dakin Humane Society, PO Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.
