Gertrude C. Moriarty, 93, of Enfield, beloved wife of 71 years of the late Thomas B. Moriarty, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at Johnson Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 12, 1923; daughter of the late James and Harriet (Palmer) Anderson. Gertrude was a resident of the Enfield Community since 1963 and was a communicant of St. Bernard Church. She was a former member of the Women's Club at St. Bernard Church and the League of Women Voters. Gertrude was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She is survived by her eight children, Jean Moriarty of Southington, Carol Cinelli and her husband Edward of Bayport, NY, Sue Smallidge and her husband Kirk of Hebron, Thomas G. Moriarty and his wife Sara of Enfield, Kathleen Carbonara and her husband Gerald of Halifax, MA, Janet Starr and her husband Jeffrey of Somers, Christine Moriarty and her husband Howard Oven of Belmont, MA, and Mary deVecchis and her husband John of Storrs; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, James Anderson, Marie Dolan, and Katherine Regina Keel. Relatives and friends may join the family for calling hours on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT. A prayer service and remembrances will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Church (please meet at church). Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Enfield Public Library, 104 Middle Road, Enfield, CT 06082 or The Mercy Ships, www.mercyships.org.
