Athanasios "Tony"  Diakoloukas
Athanasios “Tony” Diakoloukas, 62, of Enfield, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 10, 2017. Tony was born September 11, 1954 in Gennadi, Rhodes, Greece. He was the son of the late Loukas and Anastasia Diakoloukas. Although, he was born in Greece he grew up in Australia and at 17 immigrated to the United States with his family. His first job was making pizzas and from there kick started his career as a restaurateur. His nickname of Tony actually came from his customers at his first restaurant Blue Hills Pizza in Hartford. After Blue Hills Pizza he opened his second restaurant with his good friend Gus in Windsor Locks. Due to heart issues he had to leave the restaurant career behind and began a new one working part time as a security guard for U.S. Security Associates until his illnesses prevented him to continue working. Tony was as an avid sports fans of the New England Patriots as well as both UCONN Men and Women’s Basketball teams. His hobbies included fishing with his kids, collecting coins, baseball cards, stamps and antiques. He was a colorful character whose first love was his family; the second was being a practical joker/storyteller to anyone who would listen and lastly his passion for horseracing. In addition, to his wife, Dimitria (Pokkias) Diakoloukas, he is survived by his daughter, Anastasia Alvarez and her husband, Alexander Alvarez of Orlando, FL; His son, Loukas Diakoloukas of Enfield, CT; His brother Argiris Diakoloukas and his wife of Greece; His sister Maria Psaras and her husband, of Australia; His great-aunt Despina Tsanias of Windsor, CT and many Pokkias brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins spanning Australia, Canada, Greece, and the United States. Tony was predeceased by his parents Anastasia and Loukas Diakoloukas; His older Brother Kyriakos Diakoloukas; and his son Konstantinos Diakoloukas. The funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday February 20, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 443 Fairfield Ave., Hartford. (Please meet at the church). Burial to follow immediately next door to the church at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels.
