Helen A. Gartner, 93, passed away peacefully Friday February 17, 2017, in Suffield CT. She was born October 31, 1923, in Waterbury; daughter of the late Fred and Nora (Murphy) Gartner. She had lived in Hartford prior to moving to Newington. Helen graduated Buckley High School. She worked for the Travelers Insurance Co. and retired in 1978. Helen enjoyed attending church services and was a member of St Lawrence O’Toole Church in Hartford, and most recently a member of St Mary’s Church in Newington. Helen belonged to the Newington and Hartford Senior Centers. She enjoyed her retirement years living with her sister Gladys, and attending numerous family gatherings. Helen is survived by her niece Janet (Roche) Wilson and nephew Thomas Roche and his wife Cynthia, grandnephews Brian and his wife Meredith, Michael and his wife Candace, and Steven, plus 5 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews: Adam, Michael, Nora, David, and Bryn. She was predeceased by her sisters Gladys O’Brien and Bernice Roche. We would like to thank the staff at Suffield By the River and Vitas Hospice for the great care they provided Helen. There are no calling hours. There will be a short Funeral Service held at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield, CT on Wednesday February 22, 2017, at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vitas Hospice, 628 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury, CT 06033 or Catholic Office of Radio & Television, 15 Peach Orchard Rd, Prospect, CT 06712.
