Obituary for Kathleen R. Bister

Kathleen R. Bister
Kathleen Roberts Bister, fondly known as Kay, Sweetie, Dolly and Granny, 74, passed away gracefully and peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2017 with many of her family members by her side. Kay was born on March 14, 1942 in Hartford, CT, to the late Wilfred and Virginia Roberts. She grew up in South Windsor, raised her family in East Hartford, and for the past 17 years she resided in Suffield. Kay was the loving wife of Harvey Bister and they enjoyed over 50 years of marriage together. Kay’s husband and family were the light of her life. She is survived by five children; Timothy Bister and his wife Jennifer of Marshall, TX, Geoff Bister and his wife Beverly of Midland, TX, Julie and her husband Stephen Terlizzi of East Hartford, Lori and her husband Thomas Rodden of Glastonbury, and Matthew Bister and his wife Kylie of East Hartford, nine grandchildren; Virginia “Ginny” Bister, Allison “Alli” Bister, Shauna Adams and her husband Justin, Travis Bister, Michael Terlizzi, Emma Terlizzi, Jessica “Jessie” Rodden, Cassandra “Cassie” Rodden, and Lincoln Bister, and several extended family members.
Kay was full of life and made friends wherever she went. She was an avid sports fan, rarely missing a Yankee’s game. She attended as many family events/activities as she could, even when she wasn’t feeling well. Kay’s cooking and baking skills were exceptional, and one of her favorite things was to have her family at her house for Sunday dinners. Her hobbies included crocheting blankets, gardening, playing piano and spending as much time as possible at the beach. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Hartford Hospital and The Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided over many years. Words cannot express the gratitude we have for Dr. William Baker, who kept her with us for 23 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Church, 570 Brewer St. in East Hartford, CT (Please meet at Church and please no flowers due to the Lenten season). Donations in Kay’s memory can be made to the American Red Cross, 209 Farmington Ave., Farmington, CT 06032. Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels is entrusted with arrangements.
